Fearless:
Imagine Your Life Without Fear

by Max Lucado

Sunday, August 15, 6:30 p.m.

Get the book now and read it before the Book Club meets. The book is available at the display table on the first floor across from the elevator.

Fearless

Cost: $17 (Also available for loan at no cost from the office.)

About the Book: Each sunrise seems to bring fresh reasons for fear.

They're talking layoffs at work, slowdowns in the economy, flare-ups in the Middle East, turnovers at headquarters, downturns in the housing market, upswings in global warming. The plague of our day, terrorism, begins with the word terror. Fear, it seems, has taken up a hundred-year lease on the building next door and set up shop. Oversized and rude, fear herds us into a prison and slams the doors. Wouldn't it be great to walk out?

Imagine your life, wholly untouched by angst. What if faith, not fear, was your default reaction to threats? If you could hover a fear magnet over your heart and extract every last shaving of dread, insecurity, and doubt, what would remain? Envision a day, just one day, when you could trust more and fear less. Can you imagine your life without fear?

About Max Lucado: Max Lucado loves words - written, spoken - it does not matter. He loves to craft sentences that are memorable, inspiring and hopefully life-changing. In almost 25 years of writing, more than 65 million books filled with his words have been sold.

Max is the only author to have won three Christian Book of the Year* awardsin 1999 for Just Like Jesus, in 1997 for In the Grip of Grace, and in 1995 for When God Whispers Your Name. In 2005, Reader's Digest magazine dubbed him 'America's Best Preacher' and in 2004, Christianity Today magazine called him 'America's Pastor.' The product line for 3:16The Numbers of Hope sold more than four million units worldwide, including one million units of the cornerstone trade book of the same title (released in September 2007), making it the fastest selling Lucado product in his career.

His works have appeared on every major national bestseller list including Publishers Weekly, USA Today, The New York Times, Evangelical Christian Publishers Association, and Christian Booksellers Association. He has been featured in countless media outlets and national broadcasts.

Max's writings have been published in a wide array of formats including adult books, gift books, children's titles, Bibles, commentaries, calendars and devotionals. He is also the author/creator of 'Max Lucado's Hermie & Friends' brand family, one of the most popular animated DVD series in the marketplace, with more than 5 million units sold to date. His words have also inspired a branded line of greeting cards and gift books for Hallmark/Dayspring that has sold more than 15 million copies since its 2001 debut.

Max Lucado is a Minister of Preaching at Oak Hills Church in San Antonio, where he has served since 1988. He has been married to Denalyn Preston Lucado since 1981, and they have three grown daughtersJenna, Andrea and Saraand one son-in-law, Brett.

LABC VBS Report 2010
by Linda Kurtz, Director

Our VBS was a great success! We doubled the number of children attending from last year, many of them from neighborhoods nearby who had never visited LABC before.

Everyone enjoyed meeting in the beautifully decorated space-themed fellowship hall before participating in the various centers for crafts, science, missions, music, Bible story dramas, recreation and of course, snacks.

Tara Farmer is a magician whose creative imagination resulted in dramatic backgrounds and props and Keith, of course, was our guiding star.

A big Thank you to the many generous people listed below who gave so freely of their time and talent to help us pull it all together.

Dawn deserves special recognition for heading up the VBS craft centers for almost two decades!  Others who have graciously given of their time this year to make our VBS such a success are:

Dear Lexington Avenue Baptist Church;

Thank you so much for your generous gift of $687.50. All of us at Boyle County Habitat for Humanity want your congregation to know how very much we appreciate your support.

You join us in extending a 'hand up,' not a 'hand out,' as we strive to provide decent housing for many of God's children.

Again, thank you. We are truly grateful.

Sincerely,
Connie R. Mason
Office Manager

Dear LABC friends,

Thank you for all of your financial support and prayers. You have truly blessed me and welcomed me in these last few months of being home. I'm so excited to share in ministry with you as I share our hope in Jesus with my students! I'm really looking forward to this next season of ministry in my live. thanks again!

God Bless!

Dear Lexington Avenue Church members,

Thank you for the card you sent to me when I was hurt. It meant so much to me that you all are thinking and praying for me. I have recovered from my head injury. Thank you for your prayers and support throughout this chapter of my life. I look forward to meeting and spending time with you group when you come to Nada.

Thank you again,

Pastor's Page

Vacation Bible School 2010 was wonderful!! Thanks to all who helped to make it a meaningful experience for the children and their families. Everyone had a great time.

I was excited to see many new faces and new families in our VBS.  That's why VBS is such a good outreach tool for the church.  It's our way to share God's love with one another and with our community.

That's really what we are all about as a church.  Sharing God's love.  In all that we do, in all that we say, let us have as our motivation the desire to share God's love.  John 3:16 records that the reason God sent Jesus was because of his love for you and for me.  Let's make sharing God's love a priority for us here at LABC.

How can we share God's love?  Let me share a few thoughts.

*Invite your friend to Sunday School and worship.
*Tell someone the difference that Jesus Christ has made in your life.
*Get to know your neighbors and help them out when they are in need.
*Smile at the person sitting next to you this Sunday morning.
*Pray for your church.
*Love your family.
*Give faithfully and generously to the work of the church.
*Teach Sunday School.l
*Work with the youth, children, or senior adults.
*Love God with all your heart.

And that's just the beginning.  Let's make the commitment and be the church that shares God's love!

With great expectations,
Tommy
