God's Wonderful Universe
A Bible School Poem by our Director, Linda Kurtz

The wide universe
as we know it today
was made by our God
in  just seven short days.

Bright stars and round planets
and comets and moons
the bright sun to warm us
especially in June.

Mountains and rivers
with water so blue
sweet flowers to smell
and green trees for their "cool".

Deer, wolves, and birds
and 'fishies' galore
plus the sweet dogs and cats
which we all so adore.

All of earths bounty
spread far and wide
providing the good food
that keeps us alive.

So many sweet gifts
God's hands quickly made
and when all was completed
he sat down in the shade.

"I need a creation
to care for my earth
to tend it and love it
and make it all work."

God rose from the ground
and dug deep in the soil
he shaped and designed
'til he finished his toil.

Then he smiled a big smile
"Well my work is complete
I've created a being
with head, hands, and feet."

"I've created so much
that my head starts to spin
the planets, the stars,
and the strong blowing wind."

"Tall trees and green grasses
fat cows that go 'moo'
but my greatest creation
is wonderful YOU!"

BAREFOOT! Kick off your shoes! Feel the soft, green grass tickle your soles. In a time when our lives feel tempest-tossed by worries and woes, PASSPORT invites you to go barefoot and soak in the soothing teachings of Jesus. In his words and his example, Christ beckons us to live simply, trust in God's loving care, and share abundantly so that all may know the grace and providence of God.

There's no better place to experience this truth than camp, where we learn together, worship together, work together, and play together. Our feet may get dirty, but we'll know the deep satisfaction of getting them that way and the fresh, clean feel when they are washed. Come with us as we follow Jesus through 'the lilies of the field' to a life that is simpler but so much more abundant.

Welcome Tara Farmer
Children's Minister, Lexington Avenue Baptist

The Children's Ministry team is happy to introduce Tara Farmer as our new part-time Children's Minister. Tara was voted on by the church on Wednesday, December 9 and will begin serving in January. We are excited about what Tara brings to this ministry: she had a successful experience this summer when she served as our summer children's minister; she loves children, especially the children of LABC; she has a desire to learn and grow; she will complete a degree in elementary art education this spring; she has a passion for children's ministry at LABC; and she has a mature faith in Christ. Please offer Tara your support and your prayers. This is not a ministry anyone can do alone.

A Word from Tara Farmer

First of all I want to thank God for putting  me in this position. Second, I want to thank the children's ministry team for believing in me to help carry out this mission for our church. Also, I want to thank my church family who has been so supporting and loving. Your prayers, enthusiasm, and kind words have carried me through this process. I am very excited to begin the new year with a great optimism for LABC's children's ministry. Each one of the children are a gift from God. The fact that we have the honor, privilege, and responsibility of ministering to them is huge. I thank God for the trust that the families and children place in our church leaders.

Thanks Again, and let the journey begin!!!!

Tara

Salvation Army Food Offering

Children and adults are invited to bring a non-perishable food item for the Salvation Army, representing a gift for Christ. Children will collect food items at the doors as you enter the sanctuary. Children will process in from the foyer during the morning worship hymn, "We Three Kings of Orient Are," and lay their gifts on the Lord's Supper table. After the processional the children may sit on the steps for a reading of a story of the gifts of the wise men. Any children who would like to participate may meet in the foyer at the back of the sanctuary immediately after Sunday School.
