Rescue from Gilligan's Island
& The Seven Deadly Sins
LABC Youth Sunday School, April 6-May 28, 2008

The characters on television show, Gilligan's Island, are based on the seven deadly sins (Seven Things Christians Don't Do). Each week we will watch a clip from an episode of Gilligan's Island, have Bible study on one of the seven deadly sins, and vote someone off the island.

Schedule
April 6- Sloth: The Life of a Couch Potato (Gilligan)
April 13- Pride: How High Does Your Nose Point (The Professor)
April 20- Anger: Are you Ready to Explode (The Skipper)
April 27- Greed: The One with the Most Toys Wins What? (Thurston Howell)
May 4- Gluttony: Supersizing Everything (Mrs. Howell)
May 11- Lust: Fighting the Feeling (Ginger)
May 18- Envy: Wanting What you Don't Have (Mary Ann)
May 28- Movie Day: Seven Deadly Sins and Seven Holy Virtues (Gilligan's Island)

Don't get voted off the Island
On Sunday, April 6,  7-8 grades, 9-10 grades, and 11-12 grades will each draw two of the characters (and one of the seven sins) from Gilligan's Island. The teachers will also draw one. Each week you will vote one the characters/sins off the island, to be announced the following week. From 9:30-9:45 you may argue why the other sins are worse, make deals and alliances, and try to persuade your fellow youth and teachers to keep your characters/sins on the island for another week. You being there and bringing friends will help your team since every individual vote counts. Whichever team has one of their characters left on the last day wins the prize. What is the prize? We don't know yet. Maybe a trip to Hawaii (probably not). Maybe a coconut. Who knows? Whatever it is it will be highly coveted (oops! coveting is not a deadly sins but is one of the 10 Commandments).

Rescue from Gilligan's Island

The characters from Gilligan's Island have been drawn out of a hat by each class and the teachers. One character/sin will be voted off the island each week. The goal for each team is to vote the other sins off the island first:

Congratulations to Grades 7-8 for winning the competition! Their group was not voted off the island!

Still on the Island

Thurston Howell/Greed: Grades 7-8

Voted off
April 13: Envy/Mary Ann (Grades 7-8)
April 20: Pride/The Professor (Teachers)
April 27: Anger/The Skipper (Grades 9-10)
May 4: Sloth/Gilligan (Grades 11-12)
May 11: Ginger/Lust (Grades 11-12)
June 1: Mrs. Howell/Gluttony (Grades 9-10)
